YOGA AT LONSDALE QUAY

Enjoy free outdoor Yoga at Lonsdale Quay on Thursday evenings from June 23rd to August 25th, 2016. The sessions will take place on the waterfront at Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver. Relax and unwind with a one-hour class, featuring a different instructor from the North Shore yoga community.

SHIPYARDS NIGHT MARKET

Stop by Shipbuilders’ Square for the Shipyards Night Market on Friday Nights for great food, art, music, entertainment and shopping. The festivities in the Square kick off at 5pm on Friday nights. On the Shipbuilders’ Stage there is live music until 10pm, showcasing talent from all over BC. The Shipyards Night Market also includes a Beer Garden with local craft beer and ciders on tap, as well as organic Betty’s Vodka Iced Tea.

The Shipyards Night Market features 100+ vendors with local products, showcasing BC’s artisans, bakers and farmers. Products include; jewellery, clothing, kids wear, bakers, produce, preserves, soaps, organic meats, honey, plants, chocolate and many more handmade products.

Don’t eat dinner before you come to the Night Market, as there will be 40+ food trucks in ‘hot food alley’ selling unique and delicious food.
JAZZ IN THE LIBRARY

Enjoy a free jazz concert on June 24th at 7:30pm at the West Vancouver Memorial Library, featuring Vahagni. Vahagni is an Armenian born, LA-based guitarist who fuses flamenco, classical, jazz and folk music.

This free concert is part of the North Shore Jazz Festival. This festival includes a full line-up of free and ticketed concerts throughout venues on the North Shore from June 24 to July 3, 2016.

Two free outdoor concerts (June 25th & July 2) will also take place in the Civic Plaza in North Vancouver and one concert in Lynn Valley Village (June 26th)

Jazz in the Plaza is part of the North Shore Jazz Festival. This festival includes a full line-up of free and ticketed concerts throughout venues on the North Shore from June 24th to July 3, 2016.

NORTH SHORE RESCUEFEST

North Shore RescueFest takes place on Saturday June 25th from 5-10pm at Shipbuilder’s Square in North Vancouver. RescueFest is hosted by North Shore Rescue & Deep Cove Brewers + Distillers. This is a family-friendly, all-ages event featuring live music, amazing food trucks, fun activities for the kids, a silent auction and some of the best craft beer around.

The well-stocked silent auction includes: cruiser bike, an autographed snowboard, gear from Arcteryx, Vasque, G3, Sugoi, passes from Cypress, Grouse and the Hive climbing Centre and more. You can bid on a chance for your kids to have a ride to school with their friends in “Knuckles” a NSR rescue vehicle or win a picnic in the mountains – with helicopter transport to your picnic spot.

Kids (of all ages…) can try on rescue gear and have their picture taken with Nan the Rescue dog. Live entertainment will include two acoustic performers, a choir and then a great band, and the emcee is Bal Brach from CBC.

YOUTH LEARN TO FISH

Sundays 10am to 12 Noon
Rice Lake, North Vancouver

Youth learn to fish is a fun, hands-on program which is perfect for youth and their families. Rapala fishing rods will be provided for hands-on fishing. Learn about fish identification, conservation, handling, tackle, rod rigging, and enjoy an hour of fishing. All equipment will be provided.

This program takes place at Rice Lake located in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve in North Vancouver.

Suited to children ages 5 to 15, with an accompanying adult. No registration required.

GERMAN CAR FESTIVAL

HORSESHOE BAY ART WALK

Spend the day in scenic Horseshoe Bay. Visit local painters, potters, photographers and multimedia artists.

Admire the work of local artists displayed at several locations around the community of Horseshoe Bay. Enjoy the route on foot (approximately 45 minutes) or catch the free shuttle bus from the Gleneagles Community Centre parking lot every half hour starting at 11:00am. The shuttle will continue a circle route to all artists locations throughout the day until 4:00pm.

TUESDAY PADDLESPORT RACES

Deep Cove Canoe & Kayak, 2156 Banbury Road, North Vancouver

Race Entry Fee: $5

Deep Cove Tuesday Night Paddlesport Races start in early April and run weekly until mid-September. All human powered floating vessels are welcome. Kayaks, stand up paddleboards, canoes, surf-skis, outrigger canoes and dug-out canoes. Participation averages between 60 and 100 people.

The races are open to paddlers and skiers of all abilities, and the races are 30 to 60 minutes in length depending on your ability. There is a short course and long course. Don’t let the word race scare you away. There is a wide range of skill levels participating, and they are all about FUN!

Wondering what Brewga is? It’s yoga + beer. The Black Kettle Brewery and the Yoga Root host Brewga classes on Wednesday evenings at 7:15pm at the brewery in North Vancouver. Enjoy a 45-minute yoga class, followed by a beer. The slow-flowing yoga class is suitable for all levels, and led by Rachel Rozen.

Class starts at 7:15, but arrive early to sign the waiver, and find a spot. Capacity is 30-35 people.

No registration required. Yoga mats are provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own. There are only mats for about 30 people.

CANADA DAY CELEBRATIONS

July 1st, 2016 – All Day

Canada Day Parade in North Vancouver

The parade starts at 10 am sharp, and usually last about an hour. As usual there will be lots of colourful floats, cultural groups and lots of goodies for the kids. Kids will want a curbside seat.
The parade begins at 13th & Grand Boulevard heading west toward Lonsdale Avenue. Then continues up Lonsdale, west on 17th Street and ends at Mahon Park, where you can get an up close look at the floats. A reviewing stand is set up at 14th Street and Lonsdale.

Celebrations at Waterfront Park in North Vancouver 12-4pm

This is a free family-oriented event with a variety of activities, games and entertainment for all ages! From live multicultural performances to interactive crafts and activities, there is something for the whole family. There will also be some of Vancouver’s BEST food trucks. The celebrations are going green this year, so be sure to bring your own water bottle as there will be an on-site water wagon.

Celebrations at Lynn Valley village in North Vancouver 12-4pm

Picnic & fireworks at John Lawson Park in West Vancouver 4:30-10:30pm

The Canada Day fireworks show will begin 10:30 p.m. There will be two simultaneous fireworks shows, one off the shores of West Vancouver and one in the waterway between Canada Place and North Vancouver. The fireworks display can be seen from multiple locations along the Burrard Inlet including; West Vancouver (Ambleside and Dundarave), North Vancouver, Coal Harbour and Stanley Park. The pyro-musical show broadcast on Rock 101 FM.

Street Closures & Parking

General vehicle access along the waterfront may be restricted by road closures. Please consider public transit, cycling or walking. Local traffic accessing Ambleside and Dundarave will be asked to provide proof of residency. Additional Blue Bus service will be provided after the event.
SUMMER SESSIONS

The Summer Sessions Concerts, take place every Saturday evening (7pm to 10pm) in July and August in Shipbuilders’ Square at the foot of Lonsdale.

Summer Sessions will feature free evening concerts, artisan vendors, food trucks and a beer garden for those 19 and over. Each week features an exciting headline act with a diverse mix of performers and musicians throughout the summer. Bring the family, bring a chair and come and have fun, as you dance under the stars through the long summer nights.

BC BIKE RACE FOR KIDS

The 2016 BC Bike Race for Kids takes place at Parkgate Park in North Vancouver. This community race is for kids ages 2-8. There will be small courses with a few laps each depending on age, generally on gravel, some grass and fun for everyone.

Registration will open at 9am @ Bean Around the World at Parkgate Mall (please park there as there will be no parking at the park). Treats and refreshments will be available by donation to the North Shore Mountain Bike Association.

When you arrive on race day, report to the registration booth to:

CARIBBEAN DAYS PARADE

July 23rd, 2016 10am

The streets of North Vancouver come alive with the sights and sounds of Carnival during the Carribbean Days Multicultural Street Parade. Parade onlookers will enjoy spectacular costumes, Caribbean style and culture.

The parade starts at 10am at 12th and Lonsdale Avenue, and usually runs about an hour and a half. The parade route continues down Lonsdale to Esplanade Avenue, then turns west and ends at Waterfront Park.

The Caribbean Days Festival continues at Waterfront Park in North Vancouver all weekend 10am to 7pm.

CARIBBEAN DAYS FESTIVAL

Waterfront Park is home to the Caribbean Days Festival. Come and enjoy live entertainment, an international food fair and a craft market. CATES PARK SUMMER CONCERTS

The Cates Park Concerts are free outdoor concerts, held each summer at picturesque Cates Park in North Vancouver. This concert series showcases local bands, featuring talented young artists performing on the outdoor stage on Saturdays afternoons in July and August.

Each concert features 3 local bands, and the final concert will showcase 9 singer/songwriters. So catch one performance, or bring your blanket and lawn chair and catch them all. This is a great opportunity to see Vancouver’s top up-and-coming talent. All the performers are playing for free. A compilation 27 track, 2-disc CD with one track from every artist performing this summer will be available for purchase by donation. 100% of proceeds will go back to the performers.

If you want to make a day of it, pack a picnic or order some food from Wally’s Burgers at the Cates Park Concession. The concession is open daily during the summer from 11:30 am to 7:30 pm, weather dependent.

Fun City Festival
It’s a whole weekend of non-stop family fun! The City is hosting Fun City Festival, a two day family-friendly community celebration happening on August 13 & 14, 2016. Slide the City and its popular 1,000 foot long water slide returns along with Car Free Day, turning Lower Lonsdale into a pedestrian and slider zone filled with vendors, food trucks, live music & entertainment. Enjoy local artisans, roving performers, giveaways and lots of outdoor patios and seating areas. Come ride the slide or just take in the sights and sounds.

POLISH FESTIVAL VANCOUVER 2016

This year the Polish Cultural Festival takes place on September 4 & 5 at Lynn Valley Village in North Vancouver. The event will feature Polish music, singing and folk dancing, with the second day celebrating our children and youth, with puppet show, theatre play, arts activities, sing along, balloon lady, face-painting and more.

Vendors will be selling Polish T-shirts and accessories; jewelry; arts and crafts, as well as plenty of delicious traditional Polish food such as sausages, perogies and pastries.

MUSIC IN THE PARK

What better way to end the summer than spending the day outside, listening to great music and soaking up the late summer sun.

Music is the Park takes place at Cleveland Park in North Vancouver featuring local, up-and-coming musicians. The free concerts are set against the stunning backdrop of the North Shore Mountains and Capilano Lake. Capilano River Regional Park will come alive with artist demos, a kids craft table, and live music every hour from 12-5pm – rain or shine!

Bring your lawn chairs and pack a picnic lunch (or grab some great fresh, local treats from the food vendors). There will be will have free activities for the kids and free artist demonstrations in many mediums by a selection of talented local artists – they will also have artwork for sale.

BOAT SHOW AT THE CREEK

September 15-18th, 2016

The 10th annual Boat Show at the Creek, Western Canada’s largest floating boat show, is held at the Mosquito Creek Marina in North Vancouver. Come see the large selection of sail and power boats on display. The boat show is perfect for those in the market for a boat. The tent-covered outdoor venue allows you to talk directly to brokers, vendors and suppliers. The Boat Show at the Creek is a family-friendly event. There will be food trucks and a beer garden on site.

Hours: Thursday-Friday 12-6pm, Saturday 10am – 6pm & Sunday 10am – 4pm
